My Road Trip...




Having grown up in Union County and Monmouth County, we thought we had travelled a good bit of the State and seen many interesting and beautiful, and not so beautiful things in our travels.  Since we have been growing NJ Cruise News we have seen parts of New Jersey that we hadn’t even heard of. Have I mentioned that New Jersey truly is the beautiful Garden State?

One rainy afternoon, as we were on our way home from the southwestern part of the State, we drove by an interesting landmark ...a hubcap pyramid!
​

Since then, I drove back to that landmark and got out of the car to take a photo. I was pleasantly surprised to have an opportunity to speak with the owner, “JC”, who shared that the property has been in the family since 1970. His dad, J. Lester built the first pyramid in 1977 at a height of 12 feet tall. As the years went on, the pyramid grew to it’s current height of approximately 20 feet.

It has been a location on the POKEMON GAME (Hi, Pikachu!), it’s been featured on Eyewitness News, and has been a point of interest in Weird NJ.

While visiting, I met up with another couple, who, like me, had driven by and had to come back to take a photo. I am in no way anxious for the holiday season to begin, however, I look forward to visiting again when the pyramid becomes a tree, complete with holiday lights.
​

Oh! Lest I forget—yes, you can purchase hubcaps there. Many customers have stopped by to purchase hubcaps “more or less continuously since 1977”. Let it be known, however, that you will only find old hubcaps from the 1950’s through 1990, after which many automobile manufacturers turned to using plastic caps. So, if you are hunting for something 1990 or later, this is not the place.

If you are out for an old-fashioned Sunday drive, you can find this at 7116 E. Black Horse Pike, Mays Landing (609-464-2222) and to make the trip complete, be sure to stop by the Custard Castle at 6101 Black Horse Pike before you continue on your way. Happy travels!
